"20 / QUEEN CITY // THE / RICHTER / TRANSFER / COMPANY" signage on the side of a delivery truck, approximately 2.5"x4.5" photograph with exemplary contrast & focus, uneven scissors cut at bottom to resize it, 4 spots of album paste at the back corners. The city is, of course, Cincinnati. John H. Richter began his transfer company with 2 horses & 1 pull-cart in the mid 1880's; obviously this firm enjoyed some success, evolving into a cement & concrete business that stayed in the family. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 o(c)tg(r)
3-wheel delivery truck & trailer of the R. W. Rice Coal Company, on Wilbraham Road in Springfield Massachusetts, the Indian Motocycle plant in the background, manufactured by the Knox Automobile Company on the other side of that street; approximately 8-5/8"x6-1/2" original real photo with good focus & contrast. Knox was in business 1900 - 1914, but because such vehicles were unstable in braking turns, 3-wheelers were made only briefly. Rice Coal was incorporated in 1903 & probably bought this vehicle circa 1912 (after the first one was sold to the Springfield Fire Department.} Rare. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 amm
"Air-Lite Bakery / 'BETTER FOOD FOR BETTER HEALTH // Bowman / Dayton, O.'" approximately 8-inch x 10-inch photograph with crisp focus & contrast, showing 5 new-looking delivery trucks with 1931 Ohio plates & 7 well-dressed men (probably management & drivers) standing alongside, photographer's imprint is embossed at the lower right, light paste residue near the top back. Anything pertaining to this business is rare, so it undoubtedly succumbed during the Great Depression. $25.00 afo(d)**
"American Can Company / SHEET METAL GOODS" approximately 9-1/2" x 7" original black & white photograph of its truck number 88, parked near a leather company building (...LDER & COMPANY - LEATHER) whose sign is at the left. Far and away the best florist postcard that we have ever seen. Sold but still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (almost 2x original postcard area) 100-dpi scan in .jpg format. $1.50 n(s)fa
"Dolly Madison / Cookies & CAKES / Order From Your Grocer / Schulze" signage on a delivery truck stopped in from of a grocery & meat store, approximately 2.5" x 4.5" photograph, 4 spots of album paste on back. Annotation on back specifies Cincinnati Ohio, and we have no reason to doubt it; but the Schulze Baking Company plant was on the south side of Chicago. Hostess Brands now owns the Dolly Madison line. $15.00 ft
"FENTON UNITED / DRY CLEANING / COMPANY / INTER-STORE DELIVERY / WUERDEMANS" signage on the side of a delivery truck, approximately 2.5"x4.5" photograph with good focus, 4 spots of album paste at the back corners. Sold but still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 o(c)g(f)a
"Frank Johnson Bert Ratigan / North Creek, N. Y." parked before the Colonial Esso station in the Adirondacks, circa-1940 sepia-tone ANSCO real photo captioned by hand on front with identifications; unused otherwise. Delivery truck signs include: Esso, Essolube, & Essolene. SALE IN PROGRESS n(n)togg

E. 2292" signage on a delivery truck with a man seated in the passenger side of the cab, approximately 2.5" x 4.5" photograph, slight curl to the paper, very light horizontal striations in the glossy finish attributable to the printing process itself. The address is in Dayton Ohio. The business belonged to Ferd W. and Lydia Freier, according to the pencilled information on the back. Talk about hard to find! Circa 1935 (from census & voter lists). $17.00 fo(d)g(f)t
"FRESH / MILK // MATTHEWS FRECHTLING // From K. I. O. / SELECTED FARMS // OWNED & OPERATED / BY / J. & L. "GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY / OFFICE 10th FLOOR MONADNOCK BUILDING / WARE HOUSE 365-465 EAST ILLINOIS STREET // TELEPHONES / OFFICE HARRISON 1686 / WAREHOUSE RANDOLPH 4081" showing a GE delivery van in development for use in Chicago Illinois (given the addresses already on), sepia-tone real photo postcard with good focus & contrast, addressed to 'C. L. Draper / Office' (GE engineer with patents to his credit, worked there circa 1914-1921), slight toning shows in the front margins. The engine-under-the-seat design suggests that the manufacturer was Autocar. The absence of a cab is unusual, suggesting that the topmost structures were still to be added, so that electrical equipment transported would not be subjected to the elements. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan (publication quality) in .jpg format for $3.75. ai(c)e
"IDEAL BRAND / REFRIGERATED SERVICE // HAM LARD / BACON SAUSAGE '// JOHN RIPPERGER DIST. // WAbash 5179" signage on the side of a parked delivery truck, approximately 2.5"x4.5" photo with excellent contrast & focus, 4 spots of album paste at the back corners with a little thinning. "SCHULZE / BUTTER - NUT / BREAD / SCHULZE BAKING COMPANY" delivery truck numbered 901 with 2 black ladies standing nearby, approximately 2.5" x 4.5" photograph, slight curl to the paper, back thinned slightly in 4 spots from album removal. It is rare to find anything about this company on the Internet. Employers of union bakers, this company nonetheless in 1917 incurred the wrath of the Cincinnati Ohio Painters District Council, the Building Trades Council & the Central Labor Council for failing to hire their painters. Also, the March 19 1917 Cincinnati Enquirer carried an ad for this baker & this brand of bread. $20.00 fo(c)gau

This place is O.K.' One bottom corner with 2 small creases, a little wear to the upper edge, light traces of album paste on back & a couple long creases from album removal effort. The town is not given but it is definitely Morenci Michigan: Morenci Road is its main street, T. J. Fuller owned property in the adjacent Seneca Township, and Albert Green lived & died there 1902 - 1970. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 am(m)ggg

"THE BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS / GASOLINE LOCOMOTIVE / THESE WILL CARRY FOOD AND SUPPLIES TO / THE U S A BOYS IN THE TRENCHES // U. S. A. / 189 // THE B. L. W. PHILADELPHIAN" uncaptioned Azo (triangles up) real photo postcard showing a truck delivering an ultra-small 4-wheel trench railway engine to sailors at the port of Philadelphia. Ordered by the Army for use in World War I during static & prolonged trench warfare in France, such railroads were meant to be entirely movable by truck, have a low profile or signature, have the ability to negotiate small-radius curves with minimal clearances, and be easily righted if derailed. Ultra rare, the design of this engine was undoubtedly an important secret at the time. If your experience is the same as ours, you will not find another image of it on the Internet. The Wikipedia article which mentions & explains its existence is not illustrated with photo or a diagram, for example. Belongs in a museum. $85.00 wp(p)t
"The Du Brul Insulation Company / NORWOOD, CINCINNATI, OHIO / FIREPROOF HOME INSULATION / FOR / SUMMER and WINTER COMFORT" black & white photo (approximately 2.5" x 4.5") showing their delivery truck, exemplary focus & contrast, 4 spots of album paste on back. Incorporated May 1930, their business was located on the northwest corner of Hudson & Mentor, . We have seen the name incorrectly spelled DuBrul (with no space), but this rare photograph makes it plain that a space was correct. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 o(n)g(d)a

Pertinent writing all over back: "Will went into this business over a yr. ago. The partner proved to be a very 'crooked crock', and has left us in terrible shape. I am trying to help out by going part of the day. Am afraid we must give up as it is too much to make up all he left. He has gone to the States. If you see him deal with him for me --" Imprint of L. Stocks, photographer at Penticton British Columbia on back. $200.00 bfap
"THE / FRENCH BROS. / BAUER CO. // CREAM TOP MILK / CERTIFIED & INSPECTED MILK" signage on a small delivery truck, approximately 2.5" x 4.5" photo with 4 spots of album paste on back. Pencil annotation on back suggests Cincinnati Ohio as the location -- which we do not doubt. The very successful French Brothers had dairy operations throughout the Miami Valley, Warren & adjacent counties in Ohio, and Kentucky & Indiana locations near Cincinnati. Their Valley View farm furnished "inspected milk," -- i.e., milk which came under frequent scrutiny of a milk commission that had adopted the rules of the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine. $15.00 fo(c)ga
"The Great American Tea Co. // DISTRIBUTORS OF QUALITY / MERCHANDISE SINCE 1856 // Teas, Coffees, Grocery Specialties // 'I serve many- / I'll gladly / serve you // 802 // J. F. ANSPAUCH / SHELBYVILLE IND" // Teitsout Studio / Linton IND." with him delivering a basket of groceries from his truck, unused real photo postcard with crisp focus & interesting composition, 2 small corner creases. Name of the photography studio is embossed in fancy script lettering; so we may have a letter or 2 wrong. The last numeral in 1856 is at variance with conventional wisdom that the company was founded in 1859; perhaps they counted a predecessor company. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 i(s)fg(a)t

[We think such cutting allowed a prospective business owner to better visualize how a business card picturing the vehicle would look; but we are not sure.] Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 o(c)ti
