"19 Beggars awaiting distribution of bread. Port Sudan." real photo postcard mailed September 3 1936 to Miss Louise Moor in Charlestown Massachusetts. 10-milliemes & 3-millieme stamps are tied but the cancel is indistinct; our dating is from the message. Rare. $20.00 sp-s
"ASSOUAN / Carl Neufeld, / le prisonnier du Mahdi" showing him with a monkey on a balcony in the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, circa 1910 - 1912; unused postcard numbered 64 on its divided back, tiny left bottom corner crease. During his imprisonment & exploitation by the Sudanese religious leader Muhammad Ahmad bin Abd Allah (the Mahdi or 'guided one'), he wore about 60 pounds of chains at all times. So this image is obviously after he had been freed, when he was staying at Aswan with his sister during the time we quote here. Someday we have no doubt his adventures (and misadventures!) will make an interesting movie. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 spge#
