"107 _Bucuresti _Palatul Regal / (Palais Royal)" showing the royal palace; sepia-tone real photo post card from Edition A.G.L.P., very late usage in the United States, corner crease, corner & edge wear. $2.75 r
"92 / Intalnire de tarni in / Muntii-Vrancei / Des paysans se rencon- / trant dans les mon- / tagnes de Vrancea / de pictorul Aurel Dragos" with Aurel Dragos art depicting Carpathian peasants meeting in the Vrancea Mountains; postcard with very late usage at Westville Ohio, much corner & edge wear. $2.50 ra
"Bazar in Ada-Kaleh" Then an island in the Danube near Orsova, with fortifications built by the Austrians, it later became the Gibraltar of the Ottoman Empire, and was submerged by a dam in 1971. The native shopkeepers spoke Romanian, Hungarian, Turkish, Serbian & German (Transylvania was nearby). Wares were gold, embroidery, tobacco, fruits & sweets; there was also a barber shop, black & white with dark red caption on yellowish paper, no postcard back (completely blank). We suspect this card is a souvenir from the Hungarian Expo of 1896. Sold but front still available for scholarly study & research as a full-size & enhanced 72-dpi scan in .jpg or .tif format. $1.50 r

"Curtea de Arges. / Monăstirea. Vedere generală." post card from Editura Librăriei Gheorghe Mitu, showing the exterior of the monastery in Wallachia (built in the era of Vlad the Impaler), writing on back dated to 1913, corner & edge wear. The name of the city is often spelled with an accent as Curtea de Argeş. The church was restored in 1886 by architects Andre Lecomte du Nouy & Nicolae Gabrielescu. Wert exclusive Courtage / Rumänien" unused Postkarte on pebbled stock with deeply embossed images of 12 different coins circulating in Romania 1867 - 1901 (5 bani through the 20 lei gold) & the Romanian flag, minor album toning, excellent condition overall. Interesting center table gives 7 different exchange rates for 4 of the coins, meant to help merchants with travelers. Rare. $19.00 nrf

ROMAVIA. Unused regular-size post card showing its Antonov AN-24V at Prague in September 1990, published in Czechoslovakia, near mint. On December 13 1995, this plane crashed & burned shortly after takeoff from Villafranca Italy. Rare. $10.00 arc

Valea Prahovei văzută de la Cota 1 400 / - The Prahova Valley seen from 'Cota 1 400' / ..." also captioned in other languages, postcard, mailed at 40-bani rate to Cluj, 2 corner creases (1 is tiny). Lot of 90 cards--most
post cards bearing low-denomination stamps correctly used & the rest postal cards, a
few with stamps added. Most used 1964-1997. Most are continental size (approximately
4"x6"), the rest regular size (approximately 3.6"x5.6"). Duplication
present but a good variety of stamps, cancels, and topics. Rates: eighty-four 40
bani--click here for a few
examples shown full-size; four 55 -bani; two 2-lei; one 2,10-lei; six 150-lei; and one
190-lei. Stamp topics include: animals, architecture, aviation, birds, famous
people, flowers, Madonnas, Olympics & ships. Most items are addressed to Cluj-Napoca,
with a good variety of sending town cancels & transit marks such as: Azuga, Brad,
Bucuresti, Buzias, Constanta, Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Mamaia, Mangalia, Rm. Vilcea,
Sangeore-Bai, Techurghiol & many Cluj-Napoca.
Twenty-eight of these postcards are based on the work on a variety of
individual photographers (not agencies) who are credited on the back: D.
