ATTACK TRANSPORT WOOD (APA-56), renamed USS LEEDSTOWN (APA-56). "S. S. EXILONA" Kodak real photo postcard showing the ship dramatically in silhouette against the sky, when owned by the American Export-Isbrandtsen Lines, reliable penned identification on back from a seaman's collection. During World War II, this ship earned at least 6 citations, campaign ribbons & awards for the occupations of Marshall Islands, Guam, Western Caroline Islands & landings at Leyte & Lingayen Philippines. Manhard, National Security Affairs Monograph 79-4 (June 1979), paperbound, 78 pages plus covers, with a useful foldout map of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. Cleared for public release; distribution unlimited. A few library markings on the cover. Interesting & critical look at the history of the region. $10.00 mmp

American Planter" showing the former Ormsby Class Attack Transport from the side, when transferred to the United States Lines & renamed; Kodak real photo postcard with identification penned in neatly on back (verifiable under magnification of the front), contrast a bit low. Participated in operations off the Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands, Marianas, Western Caroline Islands, Philippines liberation, and Okinawa occupation -- and awarded at least 7 citations, ribbons & medals that we know of. "THE LION DANCE, / HONG KONG" continental-size postcard mailed 18 MAY 1972 from Hong Kong to Mr. & Mrs. Earl Mercer in Toledo Ohio, clear cancel on $1.00 coat-of-arms stamp, neatly detached from a booklet, tiny bottom corner crease, small upper corner bend, faint cancel ink in the front sky. Done on Chinese New Year, the dance is performed by kung fu masters & students with weapons in front of shops paying protection money (inside little red envelopes placed into the gaping lion mouths)! $1.00 hm-h
