SOCIETY. "Williard Hall ... Howe ... Payne ... Sphinx ... Hesperian ... Wittenberg

sepia-tone real photo postcard, for whose caption we take the pennants
hanging vertically from left-to-right, light oxidation with age, good edges. Showing 10 lady
students in similar light & dark attire being addressed under 'The
Archibald' sign. What is this assemblage? This is Heidelberg College in
Tiffin Ohio, as the name of the hall confirms. The date is the 1912 - 1913
academic year -- the only year that there was an Hesperian literary society
at Heidelberg. Those Hesperians broke into 2 literary societies -- the
Euglossian Society (colors purple and white) & the Philalethean Society
(colors green and gold). Question: Are the young women in the picture
wearing green & gold, or purple & white? Easy answer! So what we have in
this Eugnique photograph is the very birth of the Euglossian Society,
tied-for-oldest fraternal society on the Heidelberg campus today! No one
else can show you this. $30.00 o(t)c(h)f
