purchased Ford flathead V8 [V8 insignia plain on the radiator grille], sepia

"3617 MOTOR ASSEMBLY,
FOORD(sic) MOTOR PLANT, DETROIT." unused monochromatic dark green postcard,
circa 1908 judging by the unevenly divided back, shallow scrapes along the
back edges, only one such on the front. Rare & the caption tells you why:
would you let a postcard publicizing your growing business circulate widely while
not even spelling your name right? That error is unfortunate, because the
image belongs in a museum. When we searched the Internet, no one was
offering it, no one bragged about having sold it & no one was even
exhibiting it. $15.00 aeim(d)

Hampton Connecticut, mild corner wear, sender's pen started to run out of
ink on the front. 1905 was the year this pioneering auto manufacturer tried
its hand at auto racing (including the prestigious & more traditional 1905
Gordon Bennett Cup), in an attempt to publicize its switch from steam
engines to internal combustion engines. Unusual subject matter. Hard to find. Sold but front

"753" real photo postcard with exemplary focus & contrast
advertising the rebuilt & repainted 1909 Maxwell shown for $300 including a
1-year guarantee by the Auto Trading Company Incorporated in Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania, described in great detail on the back. Storefront signage
partially seen at the right claims they are the world distributor of bargain
ATCO products--which were for autos & motorcycles primarily. Although the
firm stayed in business until at least 1919, cards such as this are rarely
seen because their prospective customers were requested to 'PLEASE RETURN
this picture when you are through with it...' $27.50 p(p)ma
"A
farm tractor attachment to fit all / standard makes and sizes / of automobiles

'you ever see AN Auto Tractor? / (SEE OVER)', postcard addressed but not mailed, annotated on message side "Fair, Sept. 1914" (which places it
as an Indiana State Fair item held at Indianapolis). This ludicrous idea was
short-lived: it is doubtful that the poor-quality printing of this advertisement
or its content (view obscured, no manufacturer detail, no claims ...) helped
gather any prospective customers or investors. Later, the Three-P Auto Tractor
Company did incorporate in Davenport Iowa in 1917, and was a founding member of
the National Tractor Attachment Association. Rare. Sold but front
side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan

FORD AUTOMOBILE ART
ON UNIQUE POST CARDS.
Lot of 21 different well-done home-made (and,
hence, unique) postcards with art depicting Ford automobiles of many years. Art is of high
quality; though not attributed, the probable sources for all are Ford Times travel
magazines of the 1950's & 1960's. Would be special if displayed together.
Examples above: "Wonderfull Old Times" (top left), Cafe De La Paix (top
right), signed Glen MacNutt (lower left) & "Service Station in Mexico"
(bottom right). Our unique home-made postcards are from a collector who
wanted to obtain specimens of all US town cancels on postcards bearing
contemporaneous stamps. When he ran out of postcards (he required several
thousands), he made many and became quite good at it. He cut up travel
magazines mostly--so the photography or art is of a high standard, but not
always attributed. He copied the captions by hand, sometimes making a
spelling error. His cards are surprisingly well made. There are no bumps
that you might expect from sloppy pasting, and the edges simply do not peel
back. We have sold most for $2.00 each (a few more, a few less) and have
never had a dissatisfied customer. In fact some, on viewing the items for
their locality, bought us out of their entire state!
All 21 unique postcards for $20.00 a
"FORD
CAR PRESENTED TO / THOMAS A. EDISON BY HENRY FORD / -- 1914 --" sepia-tone
real photo postcard mailed 1931 at Fort Myers, slight oxidation consistent

This postcard proved hard to find; all we found were pricey offers of
prints. Why not have the real thing from us? SOLD af(f)

CAUTION Lincoln / ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR / USE BEST GRADE OIL / CHANGE
OIL EACH 750 MILES / ... / RETARD SPARK BEFORE STARTING / ... / Insist on
getting Genuine Ford Parts / C. C. VANIMAN / TROTWOOD, OHIO" flat metal
plate holed at its corners so it could be attached to an automobile, a few
tiny abrasions do not detract. The phrase about retarding the spark appeared
in 1918 - 1927 advertising. The slogan about getting genuine parts appeared
in 1919 - 1935. Thus we can date the piece to 1919 - 1927. The Vaniman
dealership was on East Main. It opened in 1910 when the town population was
about 348, and prospered for decades. Seldom seen or offered. Sold but front
side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan

"Own

unused advertising post card from the Rock Creek Auto Machine Company, good
edges except for wear at the upper corners. Accompanied by a lengthy &
pertinent note: '...This is Lady Bug #1 exactly...We had it painted gray
with red wheels. - New (Western Auto) straw woven seat covers...The ad says
79 horsepower. I believe the old in line six got a boost in 1936. there were
in stiff competition with Ford's 85 horsepower V8..." When we searched the
Internet we found only 3 mentions of any type for this dealership, and ours
is 2 years earlier than those found. The other 1936 Chevrolet ad postcards
we found were decidedly different. Apparently each dealership did their own,
so as to appeal to a varied customer base with offers that could not have
been made by all (such as our trade-in mention). Rare & exceptionally
interesting. $12.00 o(r)aa

YOURSELF // SPECIAL RATES FOR FIRMS, SALESMEN, / DOCTORS AND HUNTING TRIPS

sedans and coupes, mileage charges, minimum rental, insurance charges, etc.
This company was advertised briefly (3 times) 1925 to 1926 in the
Winnipeg Manitoba Free Press, but we have never seen anything else that hinted
they had tried to make it in the US. Truly a rare piece of rental automotive
history that is destined for a museum. $15.00 imaa
"Photo Gebr. Knozer, Wien, IV., Favoritenstr.4 / Ruf 50-606" with caption
taken from violet handstamp on back, side view of 4 people seated within a
luxury Hispano-Suiza automobile, a butler spreading a lap robe on the rear
seat passengers, 2 security people staring intently over the hood & a man at
the back of the car apparently directing oncoming traffic around the
vehicle. Real photo postcard with exemplary focus & contrast, excellent
condition. Because the vehicle was a Rolls-Royce rival at the time, and
because the Knozer firm photographed Austro-Hungarian royalty such as Zita,
we suspect that the passengers are lower nobility (their attendants are not
uniformed & the vehicle is not chauffeured, so it is not higher) & that this
Photokarte was not mass-produced. The violet handstamp would simply tell the
aristocratic family where they could get extra copies; Ruf means call & the
phone number is sufficiently complex that the timeframe is the early 1920's.

uncaptioned (so we quote some of the back message) real photo post card

vehicle drawn alongside also is bedecked with flags; it is clearly a Parry,
manufactured by the Parry Auto Company in Indianapolis from 1910-1911 (and
named the Pathfinder in the latter year). The flags & the cancel date
suggest these two autos participated in a July 4th parade. An interesting
card suggesting that long-distance auto travel was best done in groups at
that time. $16.00 ai(i) NEW / NEU / NOVA
